Jane Eyre 2011

Y'all know about my deep-rooted Jane Eyre problem. I'm in full-blown Jane euphoria this morning!

A new version is afoot. (Afoot!) It was directed by Cary Fukunaga and stars Mia Wasikowska (from Alice in Wonderland) as Jane – with Judie Densch (!) as Mrs. Fairfax. It's scheduled for release on March 11, 2011. And now – hooray! – a trailer is making the rounds.

In an interview, Fukunaga said, "I’ve spent a lot of time rereading the book and trying to feel out what Charlotte Brontë was feeling when she was writing it. That sort of spookiness that plagues the entire story... there’s been something like 24 adaptations, and it’s very rare that you see those sorts of darker sides. They treat it like it’s just a period romance, and I think it’s much more than that."

  3. I just watched the 1944 version with Joan Fontaine and it was fairly dark...a love story still, but darker than more modern versions. A new adaptation is exciting.
