It's the Prague Photo of the Day (POD).
This is the Vltava River that flows through Prague. (Click the photo; the large version is really, really pretty.)
Click the video below to listen to "Die Moldau" (the German name for the Vltava) by Bedřich Smetana. It's haunting and lyrical and lush and... sigh. The music is a tone poem and describes the course of the Vltava, starting from the small springs of the Cold and Warm Vltava, to their unification into a single current. The Vltava winds through woods and meadows, past the celebration of a farmer's wedding and the dance of mermaids in the moonlight. On the shore, castles and palace ruins loom, then the Vltava swirls into St. John's Rapids and widens as it flows toward Prague, past the Vyšehrad (the Prague castle), and vanishes into the distance, ending at the Elbe in Germany.
I read yesterday that Czech Airlines plays the Moldau after their planes land: I hope that's true!
I'm jealous...but happy for your upcoming adventures! Also liking the new blog theme ;-)
