I Have A Confession To Make: I Had To Lie Down

In the interests of full disclosure, I must admit the following, which makes me seem not-so nice:

There have been times when, after big competitive workout events like Fight Gone Bad or the Spartan 300, I've seen various CrossFitters dramatically collapse to the floor, perhaps accommodated by a significant groan or – worse – a loud, look-at-me, triumphant growl.

This makes me roll my eyes. And, maybe say something like, "Jeez! Really?! They have to throw themselves on the floor like that?! Divas!" And that's just the guys. (Ba-dum dum!)

I know! I'm being judgy.

But sometimes it's SO over-the-top.

Then today, I kinda got it.

Our workout kicked my ass so hard that when I was finished, I had to lie down on the floor. The need to be prone was overwhelming. I didn't growl or groan or flounce as I did it. I just kinda crumpled to the floor after I yelled 'time.' And then I was just lying there, breathing.

Has there ever been a feeling as sweet as lying on the CrossFit Austin floor?

No, there has not.

  1. I haven't had that feeling since sprinting 300 yards 3 times in a row with the boys. Our recovery just wasn't long enough between sprints and I'm pretty sure that for a moment I was dead. I love that feeling!

  2. Were you flapping your wings? Cute little angel. "Jackie" did that to me and I've been afraid of "her" since...

I have to tell you something...I was just signing in to my gmail account and noticed that you had a new blog post...I'm on my couch in my cozy clothes, sipping tea, feeling like I just want to lounge the rest of this day away when I decide to see what you've got to say...

So, after I hit "Post Comment"...I'm heading out to the garage to do a workout. You have inspired and motivated me. So, thanks! :)

  3. I've only had one WOD where I've done the 'floor crumple', don't remember what it was, but do remember it was after only about 1 month of CF, and was a darn hot day.

Other than that, I've had more than a few times where I've finished the WOD and ended up curled up on one knee as I finally have time to deal with the maximum level side stitch pain. Gotta figure out my breathing better.

Thankfully, don't have any of the "over the top" folks at our box. Well, maybe a couple during heavier oly lifts, but not so much after a WOD.

  6. "Floor crumple," I like that so much better than I fell down. I may lay on the floor on a weekly basis but honestly, only twice was it a get to the floor as fast as possible or something really bad is going to happen, once after hitting a PR on Grace and the other was after a PR on 5rm deadlifts. Both times I remember seeing stars and being on the ground.

    Merry Christmas Superstar!

  8. My coach friend once told me that if I lie down, my heart rate lowers faster...which is totally my excuse for lying down during FGB. Is it true? maybe...maybe not, but I like to tell myself I'm collapsing to make my workout better...and not because I'm dying of wallball induced asphyxiation

  9. "Floor crumple" is good, but "judgy" puts your post over the top, expressions-wise. I can't wait to tell one of my critical friends not to be so judgy! Hope you have recovered well ...

  10. Oh, my gosh, you guys... my abs are SO sore today! Dave and I are making cookies and one of the recipes requires 30 seconds of whisking alternated with 3 minutes of resting, so I made Dave do pushups and lunges with me during the rest times. MY ABS WERE SCREAMING! I almost had to lie down again!

And yeah, the cookies are TOTALLY not paleo and they are TOTALLY freakin' delicious. Yay, Christmas!

I should also say that none of my CrossFit Austin buddies are divas... they're the coolest, chillest.
