I'm still working my way through all the articles in
Slate's Fitness 2011 collection, but I thought y'all might want to check it out, too. There's a piece about CrossFit and PX90... as well as a funny video about face exercises called "Cheeks of Steel."
Read it now:
Fitness 2011: The business, culture, and science of working out.
My only issue with the piece about CrossFit was that they didn't differeniate it from PX90 in the way that I think can make the biggest difference: trainers. Granted, you can do CrossFit alone, but I think most people have a box and having trained people there to help can stop a lot of issues.
ReplyDeleteOverall, though, I think it was very well addressed.
I also wish that the focus wasn't always on pukie when mainstream media talks about CrossFit. I feel like the "extreme" part of it is so beside the point. The variation, the community, and as you pointed out, the expert instruction are what make CrossFit so special. BUT... I'm glad Slate covered it because then more people will know how to take care of themselves.
