You know how sometimes you're hungry, and you know you should eat some vegetables, so you throw a bunch of random stuff in a bowl and hope for the best? Sometimes it's meh and sometimes it's, like, WOW.
I have two wows to share: this morning's workout and my current snack du jour.
WorkoutThis salad workout is made of three ingredients I like but wouldn't necessarily have put together, and it packed way more of a wallop than I expected. My time was 12-something which I see in my head as this: 12:0? Chardonnay finished in 7:something, using the same weight I did. Yeah, she's pretty amazing.
4 rounds, for time:
8 dumbbell shoulder press, 25# DBs
12 deadlift, 70% of max = 125#
6 burpees
My deadlifts start to fall apart when I get fatigued. My core goes all slackadoodle, and I can muscle the weight up, but my form is pretty sad. Mission: work deadlifts with slightly lighter weight at the craptastic gym and nail my form.

SaladI've been trying to cut down on my almond consumption and replace the nuts with more olives, olive oil, and avocados. Between my post-workout egg+sweet potato meal and lunch, I need a veggie- and fat-packed snack. The other day, our fridge was looking sad. Sad! The above ingredients were all I could find, so I dumped 'em into a container and hoped it be good tasty enough to not make me feel too sorry for myself while eye-balling the coffee cake on a adjacent desk.
1 large cucumber, diced
10 large black olives, quartered
1/2 tablespoon olive oil
a few banana pepper rings, chopped
My salad was awesome! And now I'm bringing it to work every day.
I have an unrelated question. Didn't you give up gum a while ago? How is that going?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you asked! I did give up gum, and it was really no biggie at all. Then last week, my work pal asked me to go for a walk so he could get a snack. I saw some Citrus Mint Orbit at the convenience store and decided I wanted it. I chewed a few pieces over the subsequent days, and it gave me a stomach ache. I threw it out. Gum and I are definitely dunzo for good.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for a salad. I'll try it out.
ReplyDeleteThat salad reminds me of this Vietnamese salad that we have every year during the holidays. Thinly shredded cucumbers, carrots, celery, pickled lotus roots and shrimp/pork. Topped with crushed peanuts and fish sauce. YUM.
ReplyDeletePerfect! I have been craving something tangy and bananna peppers/olives might do the trick!
ReplyDeleteI literally stole my co-workers pickle sliver:)
