But it was uneventful and I managed a 2-hour nap. At the receiving end, my parents – with their hugs and their hot tub, four days of cooking together, no barbells in sight , and a welcome home dinner at Fogo de Chao in Philadelphia.
We've been cooking up a dino-chow storm (recipes and photos to come next week), drinking wine (I know! I'm meant to be abstaining just now; sue me.), and yes, I'm pushing through some solid met-con workouts. Like the one I did this morning...
Knotts Road WOD (named in honor of my parents' street)I told my dad it would take about 20 minutes, so I was pleased to have just squeaked it in under my self-imposed deadline. Starting UPhill for each run was vicious -- as was dodging the cars headed to the neighbors' yard sale. I was almost crushed by two Mennonites in a mini van. And I was the recipient of many strange looks as I squatted in my parents' driveway and huffed-puffed my way up the hill.
4 rounds, for time:
500m run: up the hill, around the cul de sac, back down
50 squats
My time: 19:45
Tomorrow is double-unders and presses... which will be fueled by today's grill-out of baby back ribs, cucumber salad with homemade olive oil mayo, and fennel salad with mint. And yeah, probably some good red wine. My parents learned a lot in Italy!
From Knotts Road to you, best wishes for an excellent holiday weekend. Grill massive amounts of meat and dig into your veggies!

MEL! Where are your parents? I live in Philly and I'm around this weekend. If you have even a couple of minutes I would love to meet you in person!
ReplyDeleteMeghan! They live near Reading... Have you heard of Schuylkill Haven!?!?
ReplyDeleteWe must definitely plan a get-together next time I come to PA. Workout and Dino-chow feast together!
