Despite the HP, I was super excited about the workout today. Tristy's gotten me over my fear of cleans, and the WOD was two of my favorite things: push press and box jumps. But just like a great novel, the plot didn't unfold the way I expected...
Warmup
400m run
high knees, butt kicks, lunges forward+back
arm circles, shoulder rotations w/ 5lb. plates
hollow rocks (for 1:00!), bird dogs
Skills
cleans: 2-2-2-2-2-2
My weights: 45 - 55 - 65 - 75 - 80 - 85 (fail)
So my new PR was 80, and if I could have turned off my noggin, I would have conquered 85. I did get the weight into the correct ending position, but my technique was so hideously ugly and improper, I'm not counting it. Next time!
WOD
3 rounds:
max unbroken push presses, RX=45#
15 box jumps, 20" box
rest :30
Oh, dear! I'd intended to do this one RX'd because I can totally do a 45# push press with high reps... but Math-While-CrossFit-Drunk Syndrome (MWCFD) foiled me again. I totally cheated myself and ended up using only 35#, even though when I started, I thought the bar was 45#. Yeah. See? Hormone poisoning (or general lameness, you decide). I feel cheated out of a super fun awesome kickass workout – but I did try really hard and do my box jumps unbroken, so that's something.
My reps on the push press: 56 - 25 - 31
My time: 6:20
And now, unrelated to training, a final word on Jane Eyre. The September issue of Glamour magazine (mostly useless for reading but lovely for fashion inspiration) included the "7 Best Literary Heroines of All Time." Jane appeared at #3. (click the image to see blow-up)
"The plain Jane in Charlotte Brontë's 1847 classic proved that you can get the guy and stay true to yourself, declaring – spoiler alert! – 'Reader, I married him.'"Plain Jane, indeed! She's a fire breather in a corset. Do not be fooled by the unassuming packaging.
Girl, 56 unbroken push press at 35# is awesome! You did more than 100 push press and 45 box jumps in 6ish minutes! Celebration!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Blake!
ReplyDeleteIf I wasn't so irritated, it would be funny... 'cause i was, like, "Oh, man! I am SO GOOD at these. Look at me go! Forty... fifty... fifty-six... whew!"
And at that exact moment, I realized it was only a 35# bar.
Reminded me of the day I was walking down the street in San Francisco, loving life. "La, la, la... I love my outfit. I look super cute today. La, la la..." and then a bird dive-bombed out a tree and pecked me in the head. Just a reminder from the universe, not to get too big for my britches.
