I Wish I Had Arms Like Barbie

[source]

Not because I aspire to her completely unrealistic measurements – read this entertaining piece that answers "What would a real life Barbie look like?" – but because if I had arms like Barbie, I COULD TAKE THEM OFF UNTIL THEY FEEL BETTER.

This month's workouts at CrossFit Austin are devoted to helping us train for the testing we'll undergo at the end of the Circle Of Awesomeness Challenge. Yesterday, we focused on movements to make us better at Fran and Fight Gone Bad.
Skills
5 sets:
3 snatch push press+ 3 OH squats
rest 1:00
10-8-6-4-2 chest-to-bar kip pullups
rest :90
My weights: 53 - 53 - 58 - 58 - 63
Pullups: blue band

WOD
7 rounds:
2:00 AMRAP
5 push press, 55#
5 sumo deadlift high pull, 55#
rest 2:00
My rounds: 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 3 + 4 = 27
That WOD looks kind of unassuming, right? Those were vicious 2-minute intervals. I felt myself just give up on round 6... I wasn't even close to completing four sets of push press + sumos... and then before the final round, I decided there was NO WAY I wasn't going to get four. I finished with a few seconds to spare. Just goes to show ya: the arms might want to come off, but the noggin is the boss. (Matt if you're reading this, thanks for being my workout partner. Keeping pace with you helped me stay on track.)

P.S.
I'm proud to say that I got the second-highest score for girls at RX (another girl got 32!).

  1. I always say that I have knees like Barbie, because they crackle so loud when I bend them doing squats.

    Enjoy reading your blog, btw.

  3. I just saw you this week on the X-Weighted show and I thought you were awesome! I'm an out-of-shape girl who's just started roller derby and even though it's fucking HARD AS SHIT I think it's what I've been waiting for my whole life without ever knowing it.

    So, just a fan. :)

  4. Hey, Lasergirl!

Congratulations on joining the Derby nation... how fun!

I did a little Google research on X-Weighted because I didn't know what you were talking about. Found info about a girl named Gaia. She seems cool -- but she's not me!

My name is Melicious / Melissa Joulwan... and this is me:

Thanks for stopping by. Good luck with Derby!
