Is It All In The (Arm)Pits?

Oh, friends. I'm firmly entrenched in cranky town this morning. My complains, in no particular order:
  • I slept lousy.
  • My boobs are too big.
  • My tummy is too flabby.
  • My thighs look big in these pants.
  • It's wicked humid which makes my hair frizzy.
  • My busted, broke-ass, good-for-nothing thyroid is making my fingers and eyes puffy.
  • I had no snatch this morning. No speed. No extension. No landing. No snatch.
  • I tried to snatch deadlift an embarrassingly heavy amount of weight because I didn't realize the snatch grip meant I wouldn't be able to lift as much. The whole class watched me try and fail.
  •  The WOD was a 5:00 AMRAP of pullups and pushups. No bands. So I did jumping pullups which are enormously depressing and my pushups were slow, like this: slllllooooooooooowww.

But I did keep the video below in mind, and I did touch my chest to the floor almost every time, and I did keep trying until the clock hit 5:00 exactly.

It sucked all around.

But this video does not.

Thanks to Go Tami Go for sharing this video!

  1. Totally sums up me on many bad days! I love it!

    -I'm bad

    -I'm slow

-I can't do that weight/movement rx, which means I'm bad and slow.

-That new gym picture of me, in the wod where I was thinking I rocked shows me now that I am actually NOT a lean, panther-like badass.

None of the above will be true for long, Melicious! I don't REALLY know you, but you are a hard rocking badass with wicked good dino-chow!!!

    Snatches suck!

The people in your gym like to see someone try and fail because that means they're not alone!

You are a beautiful healthy crossfitter, even on days when those f-ing pushups are so f-ing hard, and 5 f-ing minutes is so f-ing LONG!! "WTF do you mean 'You're halfway through this," trainer-hellspawn!"

I loved this. I'm feeling strong today, but when I'm not, I'm gonna come back and read here!

  4. You were great Melicious! Whenever I have a bad day at the gym and it feels like the wheels are coming off, I think about the days I've PRed and this "bad" day is the payment for those good days. If you didn't have a bad day today you were going to have one soon afterwards but you got it out of the way! Now you're due for a good one :)

  5. Jenn --> You're right! I got up and went. A+ :-)

Chaz --> I like the way you think... 'cause that means my next workout should be awesome! I made a deposit in the SUCK account so I can make a withdrawal from the AWESOME account later. Thanks, Chaz!

  6. Sorry you had a bad day :-( Like Chaz said, it only means that a really good one is just around the corner! Sometimes you have to go down in order to go up (hmmm, does that make sense?)

Thanks for the link back. That video is one of my all time favorite tips. I go around squeezing my armpits all the time now!

  7. Catherine --> You are sweet to say so.

Tami --> Yep, that makes sense. And while I hate the down days, I know better ones are out there. Just hangin' in til then.

  8. We all have those days when our strength seems to be in hibernation -- that or our mental grit does. Any ways -- as my 8yo daughter says: Tomorrow is another day!

thanks for sharing the push up video. Very helpful

  9. Sorry you had a bad day Mel! I have those about as often as I do good ones. But, you did go, and that counts for something! Plus, I like that you're willing to admit you had a bad WOD, because that makes you real.

Thanks for posting the video too-I'm going to have to try that!

  10. Yeah, some days are just like that... gotta take the good with the bad.

I think of that video every time I start doing pushups -- squeezin' those shoulder blades together. It's hard, but better!
