I did. It's a wonderful book. I had been vegetarian for about 12 years, then I started adding fish back into my diet, and about a year and a half ago I went low carb. That led me to eating meat again, as there ain't much else to eat. I've lost 70 pounds, started CrossFitting, and feel great.
Yet I still felt bad about eating critters. Sure, they're delicous and good for me, but how sad that animals must die for me. Her book helped me see it in a whole different way. I had bought into what she once believed, and her writing helped me understand that vegetarianism kills also. It's just not packaged up for viewing at the grocery store.
Anyway, it's a great book and well written. I recommend it.
Consider me intrigued...Kinsey Milhone's going to have to be put on hold for a few days...
I too was a vegetarian for 12 years, after raising pigs, chickens, turkeys, and rabbits. I had constant stomach issues, little strength/energy, and ongoing skin problems (eczema, pimples...)...yeah, nice. And, I too began incorporating fish into my diet (thank you, sushi!) four years ago. Fast forward to today...I'm a strong, engerized, crossfitting meat-eater with great skin and near perfect digestion. I still don't eat pork or poultry (though I cook it for my husband on a regular basis), but am in love with buffalo and the occasaional beef filet. I buy local, grass-fed meat, free-range omega-3 eggs, and bacon that's "certified humane"...I love the way meat tastes, I love the way it makes me feel, and I love the muscles that it is helping me to grow! Thank you CrossFit and Paleo for helping me to create a stronger, more healthy me!
My copy arrived yesterday. I think I might set aside my current book -- My Life in France by Julia Child -- and dig into Vegetarian Myth. Look fo rmy review soon...
You can TOTALLY go paleo if you eat seafood. Salmon is a particularly lovely choice -- but I eat shrimp, tuna, sardines, smoked oysters, and scallops all the time.
Protein is wicked important -- and vegetarian sources just don't really cut it. But seafood is the bomb.
Feel free to post more questions if you've got 'em.

ReplyDeleteHey. I need some advice.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm a recovering vegetarian, and I really want to know- can you go Paleo and still not eat meat? (I do eat seafood, just not chicken, pork, beef)
